Many people find themselves experiencing dental anxiety when it comes to seeing the dentist. At Smiley Dental Buckner in Dallas, Texas, we recognize that sometimes patients need help feeling relaxed and calm during a procedure, even a dental cleaning! Dr. Marcie Bunch and Dr. Minjeong Suk and their team are pleased to offer our patients sedation dentistry.
Aside from people experiencing dental anxiety, other reason that might necessitate the use of sedation dentistry includes those who have a low tolerance to pain, anyone who cannot sit still while in the dentist chair, those who have sensitive teeth, who have a gag reflex they find difficult to control during a procedure, and those who are undergoing extensive dental work at one sitting.
These are all reasons to offer sedation dentistry to make the experience pleasant and comfortable. The various types of sedation dentistry that is offered are nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) which is breathed in through a mask and leaves you awake and feeling good. There is oral sedation, where you take a pill before your appointment that helps you relax and calm your nerves, and this will likely require someone to accompany you to your appointment to drive you there and back. IV sedation is administered intravenously through the veins. This sedation allows you to be calm quickly, and the dosage can be adjusted during the treatment. You will also require assistance driving you home after the procedure until the sedation wears off.
At our dental practice, we want you to get the treatment you need in a way that makes you want to visit us again whenever the need arises, with confidence and without anxiety. We offer the following sedation methods for our patients, nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation. We want our time with you to be positive, safe and effective!
